The Commanding Officer of United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) Ghana Battalion 4 has met with three Abyei County Commissioners and selected youth leaders within the battalion’s area of responsibility as part of a transition process ahead of a change of command.

The engagement, held on Monday, June 1, 2026, also introduced stakeholders to the incoming Commanding Officer of Ghana Battalion 5 as part of formal handover and takeover arrangements.

The meeting formed part of efforts to strengthen civil-military relations and ensure continuity in peacekeeping operations during the transition between the two battalions.

Speaking at the meeting, the outgoing Commanding Officer of Ghana Battalion 4 expressed appreciation to local authorities and youth groups for their cooperation and support throughout the battalion’s operational tenure.

He urged stakeholders to extend the same level of collaboration to the incoming battalion, stressing the importance of sustained partnerships in maintaining peace, security and stability in Abyei.

The incoming Commanding Officer of Ghana Battalion 5 thanked the stakeholders for the reception and reaffirmed commitment to working closely with county commissioners, youth leaders and community actors.

He pledged to build on the foundation laid by Ghana Battalion 4 to advance peacekeeping operations, deepen community engagement and support long-term stability in the area.

Local administration representatives commended Ghana Battalion 4 for what they described as professionalism and dedication during its deployment.

They also pledged continued cooperation with Ghana Battalion 5 to sustain peace, unity and development across the region.
