Interim Kotoko coach Prince Owusu blames referees for heavy Medeama defeat

Asante Kotoko interim head coach Prince Yaw Owusu has pointed fingers at match officials following his side’s humiliating 4â€“0 loss to Medeama SC in the Ghana Premier League.

The Porcupine Warriors were outclassed at the TNA Stadium in Tarkwa, with former Hearts of Oak midfielder Salim Adams netting twice in a dominant display for the hosts. The result extends a difficult season for Kotoko, who also lost to FC Samartex in their previous outing.

Speaking after the match, Owusu insisted that his tactics and team selection were not responsible for the outcome, instead blaming officiating decisions for the heavy defeat.

"It's the way Medeama plays; that's why we came with that set to try to hold up in the middle. I will not say that cost us the game â€“ the referee cost us the game. If he wouldn't have taken that first goal," Owusu said.

"There were two fouls, he ignored all of them and then the goal came. Immediately that thing came, they all dropped out. When they started, we were playing them boot for boot until the situation came that the referee disallowed the foul and the guy took a shot from there to score."

The defeat has all but ended Kotoko's already faint title hopes, dropping them to sixth place on the league table.
