GLICO General backs Black Stars with GHc15 million insurance cover ahead of World Cup

GLICO General Insurance has presented a GH¢15 million Personal Accident Insurance Cover and cash support package to the Black Stars and officials of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) as the team prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The presentation forms part of the company's continued commitment to supporting Ghanaian sports and ensuring national athletes, technical staff and officials are adequately protected while representing the country on the international stage.

The package was presented by GLICO General Managing Director A. Achampong-Kyei, with support from Chief Business Development Officer Angela Asante. GFA General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo received the donation on behalf of the association.

Speaking at the ceremony, Achampong-Kyei said the insurance package was intended to give the team peace of mind as they prepare for the global tournament.

"As our national team prepares to compete on the world stage, it is important that they do so with the confidence that they are protected. Insurance is not only about responding to unforeseen events; it is about providing peace of mind and enabling individuals to perform at their very best," he said.

He added that the initiative forms part of GLICO General's wider effort to promote insurance awareness and encourage Ghanaians to view insurance as an essential financial protection tool.

The company also encouraged supporters travelling to the World Cup to secure comprehensive travel insurance to protect themselves against medical emergencies, travel disruptions, lost baggage and other unforeseen incidents.

Ghana will begin their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 before facing England and Croatia in the remaining Group L fixtures.
